Tobi Weisbond, of Unique Rabbit, is a local artist from New Port Richey. She’ll be at Gulf Coast MakerCon selling her hand crafted jewelry. We asked Tobi to tell us a little about the art she makes, and why it’s important to her.
GCMC: Tell us a bit about your work.
TW: My love affair with the visual arts began 60+ years ago in my Aunt’s basement studio. Over my lifetime I have worked with various media, including beaded jewelry, egg art and handmade paper.
About 20 years ago I turned my focus to “all things paper”, developing my craft to include various methods of working with both handmade and commercial paper.
Three years ago I rekindled an old flame -jewelry. I design and create each piece individually with no two being the same. I incorporate glass, wooden & paper (that I design) beads & semi-precious stones. Two years ago I discovered porcupine quills and their association with Native American crafts. I incorporate the quills with a variety of beads.
GCMC: What do you like best about your art?
TW: Having worked in a business environment for many years, I found my artwork gave me peace. Now that I’m retired I can devote my time to that which I love….my bliss. Creating feeds my soul.
GCMC: What are you bringing to Gulf Coast MakerCon?
TW: I’m bringing several pieces for sale to the MakerCon: necklaces, earrings and bracelets.
I’m excited about being a part of the MakerCon and getting to see what all those talented and creative folks are doing!
