We’ve got some great Young Makers joining us, from makerspaces and schools from Pinellas, Pasco and Hillsborough counties. One of the area’s newest homes for Young Makers is Tampa’s Harmon STEM School, which is hosting a STEMathon at their booth.

GCMC: Who are you and what do you make?
HSS: Harmon STEM School, and we are showcasing a STEMathon.
GCMC: What’s a STEMathon?
Our STEMathon will showcase all four areas of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math). In our Science area we’re giving away Bubble Gum and shining some dark light on viscosity. For Technology enthusiasts we’re going to challenge your understanding of ordinary objects by combining them in a different way. To highlight Engineering, we are going to jam out on our Rocking Paper Plate Speakers and PVC Pump. Come prove your Mathematics skills by playing some of our fun and exciting games, which show new ways to look at math. Stop by say “Hi!”, but stay for 3.14 (we won’t have any, but we will have classmade gum)!!
GCMC: Why do you think what you do is important?
HSS: (To show) innovation can happen anywhere and be fun at the same time.
GCMC: What’s so great about making stuff?
HSS: When you get to put your hands on something, you have a different level of understanding. “I hear and I forget, I see and I remember, I do and I understand.”– Chinese Proverb
