Gulf Coast MakerCon has always been a recognized National Robotics Week event. A major part of our GCMC has always been our Robotics Extravaganza, which includes FIRST Youth robotics and commercial and hobby robotics exhibits, the Southeast Combot Championship and some new exhibits in 2018.
FIRST’s K-12 Progression of Programs consists of four programs – FIRST LEGO League Jr., FIRST LEGO League , FIRST Tech Challenge and FIRST Robotics Competition . The programs vary by age and challenge so that learning is always building upon itself. Starting at age 6 and continuing through middle and high-school levels up to age 18, young people can participate at any level. Over $50 million in scholarships available to participating youth at the high school level, as well as internships. Look for area teams in the FIRST exhibit area! Southeast Combot Championship
Similar to Ultimate Fighting, Combat Robotics pits robotic opponents against one another in a one on one match until one is incapacitated, or if the bout goes the full time, judges decide a winner based on damage, aggression, and control of the fight.
Combat Robots, or ‘Combots’, range in size from 150g (smaller than a cell phone) all the way up to 220lb. And while some are exquisitely designed pieces of engineering, others are built from scrap metal and parts of old wheelchairs and power-tools. All weight classes use a modified version of the SPARC Ruleset .
Details – eventually.
